Cost

The first and most obvious negative would be the cost. Most gyms charge an upfront fee to join and then a monthly membership fee on top of that. Some gyms are more inexpensive than others, but the fact that you’ll be taking on an additional monthly bill is something to think about.

Time to Work Out

The length of time it will take you to complete your workout will increase if you choose to work out at a gym instead of learning how to lose weight at home. First, you’ll have to add the drive to the gym and home from the gym. Also, if the gym is very popular, you may find yourself waiting in line to use each machine.

Locked Into Their Schedule

One of the biggest negatives, especially for busy folks, is that you have to schedule your workouts according the hours of the gym.  Wouldn’t it be much more convenient to be able to work out at home?

When you choose to complete your workouts at home, you have the flexibility to workout whenever your schedule will allow – even if that means that you workout at 2 a.m.!

Many people who would much rather try to workout at home find themselves facing some obstacles. The good news is that with a little creativity, these obstacles can usually be overcome.  Here are a few of things that can stand in the way of learning how to lose weight at home.

No Room for Equipment

While having an entire room to dedicate to your exercise equipment would be great, it’s just not the reality for most people. But that doesn’t mean you can’t find ways to work out at home.

Some of the home exercise equipment available, such as treadmills, fold up when not in use. Some are so slim when folded that they can slide under a bed. Others remain folded against a wall, sort of like a Murphy bed, until you are ready to use it.

If you live in a fairly temperate climate, another option is to use the garage as a workout room.

Equipment is too Expensive

It’s true that some exercise equipment is expensive, but it doesn’t have to be.  Scour classified ads, such as those found on Craig’s List, for used equipment being sold at a fraction of what you’d pay at a retail store.

Often, this used equipment has been used very little (other than as a coat rack). Even if it has been used by the owner, it usually has lots of life left.

Too Many Distractions

This is one of the main reasons that people think they can’t workout at home. There are so many other things to do at home, that it’s easy to be distracted from working out.

Just remember, working out at home is going to take a lot less of your time than working out at a gym, so just learn to make it part of your routine.

Some people have the best luck when they choose to get their workout out of the way first thing in the morning. Others workout in the evening and then hit the shower right before bed. Find the routine that is going to work best for you.

Also, find ways to get the other people in your house to understand that you are not to be bothered during the hour that you are working out. You may have to ask your husband to distract the kids, but whatever you need to do it is worth it.

Once you learn how easy it is to lose weight at home instead of going to a gym, you’ll be able to save the money from your gym membership to buy the new wardrobe you’ll need after you lose those unwanted extra pounds.
